FP Launchpad is accepting applications for the second cohort of its Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship. We are looking for 8 Fellows to join us at IIT Madras for a fully funded, two-year research fellowship starting in Summer 2027.
Our September update introduces the six fellows in our first cohort and their projects, along with our teaching and community activities. The original fellowship announcement describes the fellowship’s aims, mentorship, and paths into graduate study and industry.
None of the candidates shortlisted for our first cohort were women. To help address this, two of the eight fellowship places in this cohort are reserved for women. We encourage women interested in systems and functional programming research to apply. Applications close on 10 December 2026. We have chosen this date in honour of Ada Lovelace’s birthday.
Who should apply
We are looking for programmers interested in systems and functional programming research, primarily using OCaml and OxCaml. Strong C/C++ skills are expected, along with work beyond coursework, such as open-source contributions, personal projects, research prototypes, or a difficult bug you tracked down. Prior experience with OCaml, Haskell, or Rust is a plus, but not required.
Fellows work full-time on campus at IIT Madras, contributing to open-source systems and working towards research publications. You should be able to explain the code you have written and the decisions behind it.
Funding
Fellows receive a monthly stipend of up to ₹1,00,000, based on qualifications and experience, under IITM IC&SR norms. Conference registration, travel, and accommodation are covered for accepted papers or talks at approved conferences, subject to IITM norms. Relocation, housing, healthcare, and other expenses are not covered separately.
How to apply
Apply by 10 December 2026. Tell us about your motivation, technical background, and programming experience, and include a code sample you have written from scratch.
We look for evidence of understanding and independent work. Applications relying primarily on AI-generated responses or code will be rejected.
For eligibility and other common questions, see the fellowship FAQ. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, submit a completed application so we can evaluate it. For other questions, contact careers@fplaunchpad.org.
